Drama N67

Pupils electing to study Drama in S5/6 can pursue individual units or full course awards at National 6 National Progression Award in Drama,   Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Following a similar structure to National 4/5, the Higher and Advanced Higher courses provide progression from the BGE phase while continuing to challenge pupils’ skills.  At Higher/Advanced Higher students can choose between acting, directing or a design.  If acting, they have to perform two contrasting acting pieces to an SQA examiner.  Designers must present to an SQA examiner on set design and one other design area.  Directors direct an extract with actors to an SQA examiner.  In Advanced Higher, students can choose to direct, act or design also.  When acting, actors must perform a monologue and one more piece.   The Higher Drama performance analysis of theatre and study of a set text is assessed as a final question paper which pupils sit in May as part of the SQA exam diet.   The Advanced Higher has no external exam, but the student has to write a 3000 word dissertation on a relevant subject of their choice.

NPA N6 students sit two internal assessments and study everything the Highers study.
