Pupil Leadership Saltire Awards

At the end of last year, we created a captaincy structure to implement in the school. We wanted to give S5 and S6 pupils the opportunity to take on leadership roles in the school and be a part of the wider school community. Through this, we created a structure of Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects.

These pupils completed an application, went through an interview process and were appointed to their roles. This allowed them to develop skills for life and work. Throughout the year we have been working with the Captains to develop their leadership skills which they had the option to do on a more formal level to gain a leadership qualification.

The Captains and Prefects have been involved in supporting after school events such as parents' evenings and information evenings, speaking at assemblies, supervising BGE pupils during lunchtimes and organising events for the school.

The Saltire Award recognises young people’s contributions to the community. They can get one of the following Saltire certificates, depending on their volunteering activity.

Global Citizenship - Glasgow Schools Forum

Every month, some of our pupils attend the Glasgow Schools Forum at the City Chambers. Four young people from S1-S3 attend the BGE Forum and three of our senior pupils attend the Senior Phase Parliament. The pupils meet with other young people from across Glasgow and discuss a range of important issues. It is a great chance for our young people to collaborate with their peers and share their ideas about key priorities such as health and well-being, digital learning, learning for sustainability and developing the young workforce.
