These courses are almost entirely practical in nature. They focus on developing practical skills in woodworking and/or metalworking. They enable pupils to gain experience and skill in the use of a range of tools, equipment and materials, working with wood, manufactured boards and/or metals. Our students will learn to read and interpret Technical drawings and produce accurate and well finished artefacts. The course provides opportunities to develop and enhance practical creativity and practical problem-solving skills, and to gain an appreciation of safe working practices in a workshop or similar environment.
The aims of the course are to:
- Foster practical skills in the creation of artefacts
- develop knowledge, understanding and skills of general aspects of practical woodworking /Metalwork activity
- encourage independence and the ability to make choices
- highlight the importance of safety and encourages responsible attitudes in the workshop environment
- contribute to personal development, in particular to practical capability
