BGE D&T

The Design and Technology course introduces our pupils to the basic Design Factors every Designer must consider when creating new products.

The course considers Function, Materials, Safety, Aesthetics, Ergonomics etc and the role they play in shaping the products around us. The pupils will be given the chance to experience the satisfaction and pleasure of working with a range of a range of materials woods, plastics and metals and develop confidence and skill in the safe use of the tools and machinery in the workshops.

Every pupil will be given the opportunity to make a selection of projects from the noughts and crosses board in S1 through to a working clock in S3.

Graphics also plays an important part of our BGE Design and Technology course. Freehand sketching, 2D and 3D, is an essential building block for creative Design work. Our students develop skills in rendering to improve the appearance of their drawings and help to make them more realistic.

All of our pupils will develop skill in using the Inventor CAD programme. This is professional standard software which will allow students to create life-like 3D images of some of the projects they have designed and other everyday objects. Pupils also use Desk Top Publishing skills to generate graphs and charts for display or promotional purposes using programmes such as PagePlus.
