Through S1 to S3 pupils will undertake CFE levels 3 to 4.

 

Course – S1/2 ICT

In S1 and S2 ICT, learners receive one period per week of ICT, delivered by Business Education and Computing Science subject-specialists.

Our aims include:

  • To engage our learners by providing a motivating and stimulating learning environment
  • Support young people to achieve the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence
  • Regularly reviewing and updating our programmes of work – to support developments in technology

 

We believe that ICT-based subjects are important and highly valuable, in a time where ICT is widely used in all sectors of industry.

Course Content:

  • Log on to the Glasgow Schools Network system
  • Log on to Glow
  • Induction Training (health and safety, data security and file management )
  • Internet Safety and Research
  • Introduction to Microsoft packages including Excel, Powerpoint and Word
  • Communication using GlowMail
  • Graphics and Animation using Serif
  • Scratch Programming
  • Business Enterprise

 

The knowledge and skills learners’ gain through S1/2 ICT, should act as good preparation for undertaking a programme of study in one or more of the following areas, as part of S3 Personalisation and Choice:

  • Admin and IT
  • Business
  • Computing Science
  • Computer Games Development

 

Course – S3 Admin and IT

Admin and IT job opportunities are widespread.  Studying Admin and IT will uniquely enhance a learner’s employability by teaching them how to use IT software packages to an industry-standard, while contributing positively to Administrative systems to ensure businesses are organised and function effectively.

Course Content:

  • IT skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets and desktop publishing
  • IT skills in using technology for communication and research purposes e.g. email, presentation software and internet
  • Qualities and skills of administrators e.g. organising and planning to support business events, developing good customer care skills

 

Course – S3 Business

Business plays a vital role in society. The need for young people with management skills and business qualifications, who can actively contribute to the success of a business, continues to grow.

Course Content:

  • Understand how different types of business organisations work
  • Skills in creating, researching, promoting and marketing products or services
  • Techniques to maximise the contribution of staff
  • Practices for ensuring production and quality
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate financial data

 

Course – S3 Computer Games Development

Gaming is increasingly being used in education, work-based training and for leisure – with users interacting using a variety of mediums.  Computer gaming is a growth industry, with Scotland supporting a flourishing sector.

Course Content:

  • Creativity skills to plan, design and implement games/apps
  • IT skills in animation, audio and programming
  • Employability skills to promote and market games/apps
  • Ability to evaluate gaming platforms and genres

 

Course – S3 Computing Science

Computing Science is vital for everyday living; it shapes the world in which we live and its future.  Society needs more Computer Scientists and for all young people to have an informed view of the IT sector and its contribution to the economy (in 2015 on in 25 Scots where employed in IT tech jobs).

Course Content:

  • Understand and evaluate computing devices
  • Apply, change and develop information systems
  • IT skills in web design, animation and programming
  • Research and analyse the major effects of digital technology
